Beautiful hand carving on walking cane, by artist Sandra McGurk. This intricate carved face on the cane is approx. 3 inches high (7 cm). Her walking sticks and canes are carved on local arbutus and hazel nut wood. Please read Sandra's story on this website.

This little owl belonged to Warren Hastings when he was a first world war pilot. These were presented to pilots who experienced airplane engine trouble, managed to land the craft, fix the problem, then successfully take off and fly back during the night.

This wonderful piece of industrial art shows Edie Cross in her welding gear at Victoria Machinery Depot Shipyards, Victoria B.C., circa 1941. The painting was done by Ina Uhthoff which was sponsored by the Russians for an article they had written regarding women in the workforce. Edie was highly respected by her fellow workers, both men and women, for her abilities to take on difficult and unpleasant jobs - such as high rigging and working in close quarters in bilges of a ship. Somehow her reputation reached Russia and that was the reason the painting and article came about.

This painting was done by Squadron Leader Owen Cathcart- Jones when he was an advisor on the movie 'Captains of the Clouds'. He also played a part in the movie. The painting shows the Hudsons Bay Co. trading post where the movie was filmed. When my father-in-law was ten years old, Cathcart-Jones gave him this lovely painting.
